There were some known problems with IRIX in 3.1.5, which were worse with dynamically loaded libraries but seemed to show up anyway, to do with name clashes; I don't quite see how your probablem could be related, but IRIX seems to do some weird things. They're not in a production release yet. Have you tried the latest development code?
