Hi,
is there anybody out there who is running plan9 on a sparc ?
I tried to install it, but couldn't find out which file I have to link
on the bootp server as xxxxxxxx.SUN4C (where the x = hex IP address).
I wonder if that should be a special boot strap loader as with other
OS'es (I'm also running NetBSD and OpenBSD on that machine, both booting
over the net) or if the bootstrap file has to be one of the 9ss* in /sparc .
I'm not running currently any other plan9 system so I installed a 9fs server
on a BSD box to have a fileserver on the net. But unfortunately I couldn't
make it at least access that fileserver. All the 9ss* kernels stop any
activities after loading them over the net.
Thanx for any hints.

Sparc's want to boot with tftpboot. You can link the xxxx.SUN4C file
to 9ss instead of sun's bootloader. If you have an nfs root partition
for your terminals, you can dual boot by just dropping 9ss into / and
then "b 9ss" instead of "b vmunix". You need an auth/cpu server
before you can talk to the file server.

I boot Plan9 on my SPARCstation 2 using tftp, and a u9fs file server.
Bother services run on an Intel BSD/OS 3.1 system.
I use 9ss as the bootfile (no special loader needed for network boot).
Do you at least get to the point where Plan9 prompts for the file
server to use?
If so, make sure you enter numeric IP addresses, and log in as
user none. If it doesn't work, check your file server logs
to see if it registered any attempted connections.
This is what my tftpboot directory looks like:
