looking through the archives to find out whether there is a way to use u9fs
as the file server for a plan9 installation (not enough hardware available
at the moment, vmware notwithstanding) i came upon this message:
http://www.fywss.com/plan9/info/u9fs
it's dated 1995, so my question is can u9fs still be used as a file server
for a plan9 non-standalone installation?
i can make a machine act as a cpu/auth/kfs server but i really want to
boot diskless cpus...
thanx, andrey

If you can set up a system to be a cpu/auth/kfs server, why can't
you boot the diskless machines off of that or am I missing something?

I have just one machine available to act as a cpu server.. currently it's
set up as a cpu/auth/kfs machine, but I want to get rid of the kfs part,
(move it to another unix machine, on which I am not given permission
to put Plan9 in a non-vmware fashion :)

u9fs can act as a file server, authenticated by a Plan 9 cpu server, yes.

u9fs can again be used as a file server for a plan9 non-standalone installation.
(for a few years inbetween then and now, it could not).
but see presotto's mail. using kfs makes more sense.
