the paper "The Various Ports" describes breifly a few
alternative options for file servers and backups. in
particular, it talks about using scuzz(8) to stream
backups to tape, and (seperatly) streaming a
pseudo-worm to tape when it fills. the first option
sounds like it's designed to run on a cpu server
reading from the file server, but the second sounds
like something the file server does. are the
suggestions in the paper purely hypothetical, or have
any of them been attempted? if i have, say, a number
of SCSI disks and something like a tape drive, can a
reasonable (if manually dumped) file server (not a
cpu server with kfs) be created?
