Subject: [9fans] Out of Memory in Standalone Install
Date: Fri, 3 Aug 2001 04:25:06 -0700	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <20010803112506.21532.cpmta@c002.snv.cp.net> (raw)

Hi All,
I am attempting to install the distribution on a 586 machine with 32M of RAM. I boot off the install floppy and I have the distribution in the CD drive. I get to the point where the install script begins to unpack the distribution and I get a "no physical memory" error.

I had thought 32M was enough memory for a standalone install, so I begin again and look at the stats window. Even a the very beginning of the install process, about 75% of my memory is already used up!

So I open another window and do a ps, and this is what I see:
glenda 1 0:00 0:00 64K Wait init
glenda 2 0:30 0:00 0K kproc genrandom

glenda 337 0:00 0:00 48K Read ps

So my question is: Should I be able to do a standalone installation on a machine with 32M of memory?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
