I hope that'll make this message findable enough in the archives :-)
The vgadb on the installation floppy is _not_ the vgadb that gets
installed on your system. In other words, (a) it's possible for one
of the above to be out of date, and (b) if you update the one on the
installation floppy to support your video card, your installed system
will not have that same patch (unless somebody else applied the same
patch independently to the vgadb on your installed system (i.e., to the
Plan9 distribution archive that you downloaded as part of the installation
process) - which is most likely a low probability event).
