Hello world.

I can boot from the installation CD and install Plan 9 in a VMware Workstation
4 virtual machine but when I reboot the virtual machine I get these messages:

---
MBR...PBS...Plan 9 from Bell Labs
ELCR: 0000
apm ax=f000 cx=f000 dx=40 di=ffff ebx=5a43 esi=-1
dev A0 port 1F0 config 427A capabilities 2F00 mwdma 0007 udma 0207
dev B0 port 1F0 config 85C4 capabilities 0F00 mwdma 0007 udma 0207
---

Then vmware-vmx takes 97% CPU but nothing visible happens - no disk access, no
output. Has anyone else experienced something similar to this?

Regards

Nick Jamieson

I am having the exact same problem with the Plan 9 VMware guest
image supplied on the Bell Labs distribution site (vmware.zip). I
just downloaded it, so it's whatever version is there right now.

I'm using VMware 4.0.2 build 5592 running on SuSE Linux 8.2. Any
hints would be appreciated.

I have tried the VMWare disk image in the past, but recently I have simply
used the standard ISO and installed from there into VMWare rather than using
the pre-installed disk image. Last time I tried the VMWare image, it did not
work for me either, but installing from the standard ISO did.

hello everybody!

I would like to play with Plan9 on a myrinet network.
Does anybody know of myrinet drivers for Plan 9
official or otherwise? If there aren't any, can
anybody point me to a good Plan 9 device drivers
tutorial so that I can begin working on one? Thanks a
bunch!

I started working on myrinet drivers a while back for the
same reasons, but I didn't get very far because I don't
have hardware available.

The best tutorial for writing drivers is reading the source.
I know that probably doesn't sound very helpful, but it's
true.

well, if somebody does the myri port, I'm willing to try running plan 9 on
the clusters here and get some #s.

I was unable to do a regular install, I got to the 'finish' step and
the it seemed to finish properly, but the disk image never was
bootable. BUT I am able to use the vmware.zip now in Vmware 4.0. I
removed the USB controller, the CD drive, and the floppy drive and
then started the virtual machine. I am now logged in as glenda. I
will attempt to add the CD back in unless I can use an SMB mount.
Here is my config file if you would like to have a look:
