Mk has run on Unix for a very long time,
much longer than p9p has existed, and its
default shell there has always been /bin/sh.
On Plan 9 the default has always been /bin/rc.
The p9p mk straddles both worlds.
Either choice of default would have bothered
some of mk's users.
I'm sorry the one I picked bothers you.
