potentially silly question but ...

Is it possible to snoop USB? either in some sort of promiscuous mode

or by connecting Windows <> plan9 <> device and passing the packets through

I see so many USB devices that only come with Windows drivers. I'm willing to spend the time snooping if I thought it would yield results.

Anybody know before I embark in my quest for knowledge ?

Windows sniffing software:

You could also fork over a pile of cash for a CATC sniffer.

thanks and thank you Derek

the CATC must be expensive, none of the sites seemed to carry the price

I did consider working out how to run bochs,
just so I could spy on my favourite
usb/parport/other-manky-device-interface under Windoze,
but I wimped out after reading bits of the code ...

Although I know that timing is going to rear it's ugly head,
it would be exceedingly nice (long term) to be able to do some
sort of usb event peeking/poking from plan9,
so you could just plug in a device and prod it at least
enough to work out the IDs etc.

	Dave.
