converting from troff to postscript...

I've only seen this with the usb pages.

By the way, if the window in which a page is
displayed is moved, just to the right a little,
then the panning is very slow and jerky. It is
smooth and fast if the window is not moved.

It's not the motion but the fact that you just
moved the window partially off the screen.
This means that every operation pushes the
on-screen bits to the backing store and then
does the operation there and brings the bits
back.  It's much worse.
