Not sure if anyone is interested but some of the L4 researchers are
doing some interesting work with pre-virtualization as an alternative
to para-virtualization provided by Xen or rHype.

There is also interesting work on device driver re-use across address spaces:

Basically they end up using Linux as a device driver repository.
