Hi folks,

anyone here interested in helping on a little plan9-related eZine ?
I've set up an joomla for it, and I also can provide an integrated
video hosting (venti-based ;-p). No content yet, suggestions or
contributions appreciated :)

I really would appreciate it if more people contributed content to
9times: http://ninetimes.cat-v.org

Aediks has started to post some stuff, but obviously there are many
more things that could be added (I have some interviews that I have to
finish transcribing and posted for example).

Anyone interested on being able to post articles to 9times just send
me an email and I'll create a werc editor account you can use to post
stuff.

suggestion: it would be nice if blog entries, etc on ninetimes
were either signed or didn't contain personal pronouns.

Good point, they used to include the name of the author, but I think I
removed it a while ago because nobody else was posting, I should add
it back, the information is still there (i think) just need to display
it.

hmm, interesting, never heared about werc.
can it be administrated via web ? or could I mount its datasource ?

I've chosen joomla for lo9, since I'm working w/ it every day
(also hosting dozens of it) and it's quite easy for unexercised
users, and of course the large amount of extensions available
(including my own ones ;-)).

Perhaps you could send me a copy of your site, so I can play
around w/ it ?

else interested in contributing.

A nice thought, but you are suggesting making a pro-vegetarian website
and peppering the pages with pictures of juicy steaks. ;)

With reference to both this and the Binary Format thread I would like
to say I don't think many people really grasp how different Plan 9's
approach is. Unix was made with the idea of getting away from the
overburdened, ridiculously bloated operating systems of the past.
(Lisp machines could take 15 minutes to start up.) Today the computing
world knows nothing else than trying to add back that bloat unix got
away from, except this time it's usually without the careful design of
the past.

Actually, explaining that in an ezine would make a wonderful article.
Actually if I had time I think we could post a half dozen or more references
which basically explain this as why Plan 9 was designed and developed in the
first place.

ACK. And that should really explain *why* the Plan9 approach
(to me, personally, that's not the OS itself, but the concepts
like synthetic filesystems behind it) are better.

I'd also like to have that ezine as a place for presenting ideas,
even those which aren't implemented yet. For example, I often use
idle times (like right now ;-)) to think about how bloaty things
in the GNU/Linux world (from relatively little things like some
virtualized devices up to whole desktop environments) could be done
much better the Plan9 way. Unfortunately I don't have thet time to
implement all these ideas which float around my head. So I'd like
at least present them to the world, so hopefully one picks up some.

Here's a great example from unix:
   http://man.cat-v.org/unix-1st/1/cat
   http://code.google.com/p/unix-jun72/source/browse/trunk/src/cmd/cat.s

simple, understandable, useful, composable.

Yep, looks quite interesting. For now it still lacks the functionality
I need in most web projects (which joomla has ;-p), but could become
a very promising toolkit. Maybe I'll find some time to implement an
frontend for my MediaCloud platform.

Sorry, but the list wouldn't like to know that you would like to have one.
Also I've never heard of any mediacloud.
