yes, booting off USB floppies doesn't work when it goes
looking for the nvram.  as soon as a i get my vaio back
(a wine spill killed its keyboard) i'll hack version of the boot
code to get around this problem.

now, if it were me a USB floppy would appear as a:

Oops. Another problem with the Toshiba Portégé 3440CT is it has a USB
floppy so booting the Plan 9 distribution 'straight' would be problematic.
