Hi,

I've been following your discussions here for years and have tried plan 9
several times on several different machines since early 2000 but
evidently have never been lucky enough to own one with supported graphics
hardware. It always complains about vga and says I can go ahead and run a
non-graphics based instance if I want.

I am thinking that perhaps I am just a loser because I see here
http://cm.bell-labs.com/wiki/plan9/Supported_PC_hardware/index.html that
there are quite a few cards supported.

Yet my "primary" machine has an intel 845G chipset which I do not see on
that list.

Is there anything I can do?

Regards,
Eric (evidently The Supremely Stupid)

most vga cards are now supported with the new vesa driver. in fact,
graphics are now better supported than network cards (speaking from
experience -- i have a laptop here with beautiful graphics and no
network :)

download a recent CD and try again. specify 'vesa' as the monitor type
when you install and you'll be there :)

Andrey,

This is the best news I've had in quite some time! I'll do it.

Thank you so much,
Eric
