I am running drawterm on a G5 iMac, but within the first minute the
drawterm sessions closes or crashes. Has anyone experienced this
problem? And what was the fix?

i've had a lot of trouble with drawterm on the mac and
eventually gave up, using vmware instead. i don't use
either enough to dig in to figure out the problems, which
include hangs for drawterm and horrible but unpredictable
colors with both drawterm and vmware.

Huh? When did VMWare for the Mac come out? Granted, I've been under
a rock for a while (literally), but I didn't think I was *that* far
out of touch....

I have other types of troubles with drawterm on Mac OSX 10.3 + X11 1.0.
- ugly yellow acme windows.
- characters become invisible suddenly.

Therefore I don't use drawterm.
Plan 9 terminal on VirtualPC is slow but it is steady and starts up
quickly.

Oh yes, invisible characters, that too. Although that
stops happening at some point and it's fine after
that.

I'll give Virtual PC a try. Thanks for your suggestion.

I'll forgo using vnc on a mac. This has saved me from wasting more
time and feeling more frustrated. Thank you. :)

Virtual PC on Mac is helpful for administrative work for my Plan 9
servers
and gives me handy operations to send HTML documents to my web server.
However I don't recommend VPC for programming because it is slow.

P.S:
If you buy VPC, I recommend not to bundle win-XP license:
- win-XP is too heavy for VPC
- probably makes a serious problem when you upgrade VPC.

Just a note to say that here drawterm on both FreeBSD
and Linux have this feature, rather unpredictably.
On FreeBSD playing with acme windows will often
bring the characters back.

I've found drawterm usable but with funny colours at times, but i
prefer Vnc over drawterm or virtual PC on the Mac because it also lets
you paste into your plan 9 session.

Virtual PC has the additional drawback if you're using a laptop without
an external mouse that you have to do silly things like in the script
below so that you can get middle button functionality (pressing shift
and right button is not an option).

cat bin/rc/bswa
#!/bin/rc
if (! test -e /env/buttonmap) {buttonmap=0}

if(~ $buttonmap 1 ) {
	echo buttonmap 132 >/dev/mousectl
	buttonmap=0
	}
if not {
	echo buttonmap 123 >/dev/mousectl
	buttonmap=1
	}
