I need to get plan 9 running on an Inspiron 3800 system that does not have a floppy and only has a cd-rom and ls-120 drive that is floppy compatible, i.e. - it can take 3.5 floppies.

I have problems because it says boot from in the prompt and then when I enter sdD0!dos!9pcflop.gz, it comes up saying that there is no fat partition named sdD0!dos; I have tried both that and the other two device names [fd0, sdC0] the closest that I have come to success is when I put the 9disk.9fd on the root drive of sdC0 and then I told the comp: sdC0!p1!9pcflop.gz, it then said that it was having trouble walking to 9pcflop.gz.

I have 4 partitions, sectors 0-17(?) are the lilo, then there is the windows fat, and then a /boot, then a /. In linux hda1 is the windows partition.

How would I get this thing to work and how would I get this thing to boot?

Could I use a cd-rom instead of the ls-120 to boot, if I wrote it to the Cd using another comp?

Is the partition name more like p0?

How would I get a winmodem to work?

What programs are there that are made for this thing?

What programming languages and application builders come with the system?

Noorah
