ok, my friend is booting plan 9 in vmware 4.5.2 using the vmware CD from
the web page.

It is hanging right after it prints
dev B0 port 1F0 blah blh

anything we should be looking for? Has anyone tried this on this vmware?

ron

They use iso file or burned disk?
I used both variant, and all it work (vmware 4.0.5)... It's very
strange because previously often I get result as you describe?
Previously I get this result when use cdrom on virtual machine and it's be
empty.

But in case of using cdrom drive from host system try set 'Legacy emulation' check box.

Yes.

You need to remove ALL devices from the virtual machine other than the
HD, NIC and CD-ROM. (In fact, you might even need to remove the virtual
CD-ROM now that I think of it). Once you're done, you should only have
the HD, RAM and NIC in the VM, I think.

Good luck :)

I had the same problem (under wmware and qemu).
When I removed the cdrom from vmware it worked.
Under qemu I _added_ a cdrom and it worked.

Hope it helps.

I had the same problem with Vmware like a month ago...

Try to strip down the vmware machine to it's bare essential, no audio,
usb, etc. for the install, putting them back after the install.

My ¢2 worth:

- The preinstalled image doesn't work under 4.5.2.
- Installing works.
- After install, remove the CD device and it boots, otherwise not*.
- Other devices doesn't seem to be important.

* I've done some debugging, but due to very limited time only got so far
as to pinpoint it to the fact that no 9fat partition is found. It seems
that the parttion search hangs somewhere indefinitely.

I'm just going to try to get my friend to use Xen.
