Why not just set up a public Plan9 fileserver?

Would GitHub or similar be easier to manage and track changes,
contributions, etc?

I would prefer to have separate directories for common, 9front specific,
native specific. At the moment stuff is a bit all over the place.

Everyone is naming sites to check out, but which one has the right
contents, is being maintained, and will be stable?

I've been running 9p.io since February 2014.

It's a complete and up-to-date copy of plan9.bell-labs.com.

It includes the following services:

 - HTTP and HTTPS (full content, including personal pages)
 - FTP (full content)
 - 9P (/n/sources, but no /n/sourcesdump currently)
 - wikifs (served from /n/sources/wiki)
 - manual pages and documentation

It has been running with no downtime for four years now.

On the other hand, plan9.io is run by Sevki Hasirci.

It has been set up in January 2016, using 9p.io as a basis,
to serve as a fallback mirror.

However, plan9.io is not as complete as 9p.io and doesn't
include services such as FTP, 9P or wikifs.

I don't know about the other mirrors.

Not all up to date, I think. Patch directory appears to be
a snapshot from March 2016, and contrib/miller/9/bcm has
nothing newer than July 2015.

Yes, /n/sources has been still evolving on plan9.bell-labs.com,
so there are some updates to catch up.

I'll update /n/sources from my latest snapshot.

I've just updated /n/sources on 9p.io with a snapshot from 2017-12-15.

Thanks for the reminding!

How about contrib? It would be nice to have something to fall back on
when the plug is finally pulled.

That's never existed to begin with. Nothing's changed to suddenly make
it likely.

Didn't Charles Forsyth have a github or similar such repository with a
copy of the Labs sources? That was even seeing sporadic updates? I'm
sure I browsed it last fall, but I can't find it now.

Few years ago, I've made a GitHub repository with full /n/sources/plan9
history, if that's what you're looking for:

We could use the /n/sources/contrib directory from 9p.io as the future
main contrib repository, but we never know when plan9.bell-labs.com
will be back.

At some point in the past, plan9.bell-labs.com was down for many weeks,
so some people started to submit patches to 9p.io, but it became an issue
once plan9.bell-labs.com was back because we had to synchronize
the repositories.

That's why I would consider 9p.io to be a read-only mirror of
plan9.bell-labs.com for now.

Yes, when sources was doomed, I enthusiastically set it up, although I
think it was bitbucket not github, but I was then embarrassed to be
reminded that David du Colombier had been maintaining something similar for
quite some time, so I stopped.

And the reason I liked the bitbucket repo is because it's accessible using
hg, for which we have a Plan9 port that does get some TLC thanks to the
9front folks.

Ouch. I'd hate to think the work I did on that is somehow associated
