hi russ-

i'm thinking of buying a ibm t40 and i noticed in the archives you
mentioned you had one:

"I am suffering through a T40 right now (dropped my T23 on the ground)."

i have a t22 now, but rpi has a good deal on refurbished t40s. does plan
9 run fairly easily on it now?

I gave my T40 to someone else in my group and got
my T23 fixed. Then my T23 broke again and I got an X40,
but by then I was running Linux.

As long as you don't want wireless, the T40 should run
okay with the vesa driver.

Any idea whether an X41 would run Plan 9?

Axel.

With the vesa driver, all the Thinkpads should have
no problem running Plan 9. The wired ethernet
is always an Intel something or other, which we
support pretty well. The wireless is usually the
ipw2200 centrino, for which the half-finished driver
is on sources as I posted before.

according to thinkwiki.org the x41 should have
a Broadcom BCM5751M
(as well as r52, g41, t43, t43p and z60m and z60t)
(another site adds to the confusion by mentioning
 an intel pro 1000 instead :-( )

I recall having seen some discussion on (broadcom)
gigabit drivers but don't recall the conclusion.

should be either ipw2200 or ipw2915.
(linux ipw2200 driver supports both, acc. to thinkwiki)

Axel.

Right, they're essentially the same chipset.
I think the 2200 is B/G and the 2915 is A/B/G,
but otherwise the hardware interface is the same.
