Installation on virtualbox

Hi,

I am trying to install 9front (9front-4237.5a10c0a49233.iso) on
Virtual Box (4.3.20 r96996). I used a fairly standard setting as given
in the FQA installation guide.

The image boots up, once it goes into the graphical mode and asks the
question on mouse, it is frozen. Moving the mouse does not move the
cursor. This is on an OSX 10.10.2 host machine. I also tried
downloading the previous release (4045) and that also had the same
behaviour.

Would appreciate any help to get past this stage. Thanks.

Don't use VirtualBox, use QEMU[+KVM] or VMware.

Thanks. I will try qemu. Apparently there is a qemu port available on OSX.

Exactly same behaviour with these two releases on qemu as well.

to clarify:

the computer stops responding and you'r unable to answer the
"mouseport" question?

hitting enter on mouseport question with [ps2] progresses and starts
rio (gray screen), but then mouse does not work?

have you tried clicking the qemu/vbox window? we have no guest drivers,
so the vm needs to emulate a ps2 mouse sending us mouse deltas. on windows,
you click on the window and it captures the mouse. just hovering over the
window does not work. i have no idea how it works on macosx.

Yes, that's right. Sorry, I was not clear. The mouse pointer is stuck
on the left top corner.

No, that does not seem to work.

yes, clicking the vbox window hands control over to the virtualbox (at
least it works that way in the labs version, I can confirm). In this
case, after that, moving the mouse has no effect on the mouse cursor
on the screen.

Later today I plan to try creating a bootable usb image of 9front and
try on an Acer C710 chromebook with coreboot+seabios payload.

Hmm, yes. Can't the mouse question also be asked before the vga
modeset? May be I will try other resolutions/non-vesa.

just checked to be sure:

qemu 2.0.50 and vbox 4.3.18 r96516 on windows 7 work.

so does vmware player 6.0.2 build-1744117 as thats the one
i do test install before pushing release.

its odd that this affects both qemu and vbox on your machine.

maybe the iso file is corrupted? did you download the torrent?

Yes, you are right, the iso seem corrupted, the shasum does not match.
Let me download again. Sorry for the confusion. :(

Downloaded a fresh ISO and it boots up perfectly fine.. (installation
in progress in virtualbox).
