If you have a ThinkPad with two GPUs (what Lenovo calls "switchable
graphics"), like some models of T400, you will want to disable the
Nvidia one from BIOS and use the integrated Intel. It doesn't suffice
to *use* the Intel as the primary (Nvidia doesn't support any useful
VESA mode anyway), you have to disable the switchable graphics
feature completely, otherwise the Nvidia GPU runs at full steam and
will overheat the laptop, which after some time will shut down.

If for some reason you boot Windows after you have done the above,
the BIOS settings will reset, so keep that in mind.
