A couple questions. With the washing, I'm assuming Lars that you set this
functions to toggles right? They aren't permanent toggles, just temp
toggles for the current article. Here's an idea...

All washing toggles should reset the variables globally or else at least
within the summary buffer for the current newsgroup. A
gnus-summary-mode-line-format variable %w (washing variables) which will be
a final string like...

- -- Gnus: list.sgnus [7287] [CHMOP] 11:20pm 0.08 (Summary)--L15--Bot-----

This index'ed string would contain toggle settings much like the minor mode
for the mode-line.

	B, break pages
	C, citation c, citation maybe
	H, vis-headers h, ign-headers
	M, show-mime m, show-mime and strict-mime t
	O, treat ovrstrike
	P, pgp
	X, display x-face

I've found it kinda useful mostly for the mime, citation (pgp or normal)
cause I might turn it off and forget when I come back to that window. Also
I don't get the "[...]" as citation buttons, am I missing a default
variable that was changed?

As per the mode-line string, I'm currently using a user-defined string, but
I'm trolling to see if it would be useful as a status marker for beginning
and advanced users.

	W v gnus-summary-verbose-headers
	W t gnus-article-hide-headers
	W W b gnus-article-hide-boring-headers
	W W h gnus-article-hide-headers

Don't all these functions conflict if used in conjuction? I've noticed in
a couple versions prior to 0.39 that if I typed (t) and then (WWa) the (t)
would be broken thereafter.

I'm getting the same behaviour from both Emacs and XEmacs.

Patrick> I get the same problem. I can, however, enter gnus w\
Patrick> gnus-no-server.

That would consistent with what I'm seeing. I can get to the full
group buffer, after I turn off gnus-check-new-newsgroups (set it to
nil from its normal setting of 'ask-server), however, the operation is
much slower than in v0.42. A great number (not all) of groups have
*'s instead of message counts.

When I did the debug-on-quit thing, I found it waiting at the check
for new newsgroups. Cutting and pasting the parameters from the lisp
backtrace into a telnet session with the news server shows that the
attempted operation should have been completed very quickly.

The only thing I see changed around in this sequence is in the
additional code for Group Lens, and I haven't started playing around
with that yet.

Good idea. This should be in the article buffer's mode line, though.
I've added this to the Red Gnus todo list.

`W v' conflicts with the rest, and boring headers are not shown when
toggling with `t', which might be a bug, in a way. I don't know.

That was a bug in the `t' command, which should be gone now.

Okay... but Lars would this variable be accessible in all mode-line-alists
based upon current implementation? Or are you just saying by default this
would be listed in the article-mode-line?

I'll email my function to you, but do you have any specifications on how
you would like it formatted, i.e. should I just follow along with what's
inside the current implementation, or do you plan on adding any other
functions which would make mode-line variable formating easier?

I don't know exactly. Whatever would be the easiest and most
flexible.
