Hi,
when reading mail whose sender included x-face information
gnus appears to fail displaying these x-faces correctly.

It just shows a black box, which obviously is meant to be a face.

Having installed XEmacs (21.4.6 on win32) *exactly* identical on
another machine, anything works fine; thus I do not have the
slightest notion of what to do now.

Sebastian

Is your XEmacs compiled with xface? Evaluating (featurep 'xface) tells
you the result. If not, probably you need install uncompface package
to do the job. Also, the XEmacs builtin xface doesn't support grey
xface.

What's meant by this?

You have to use external program, uncompface, to decode grey xfaces,
which is a new feature.
