Marking the third article (with T #), and move to the first article, and issue
the keys 'T ^' leaves this:

with Gnus saying 'Article 8 is now the child of article 9', as it should, but
the third article is NOT moved to the top, as I want it (because that's the
first msg in the thread!). The variable 'gnus-thread-ignore-subject' is t.
What am i missing here? I want the article from 'gmcafee@us.ibm.com' to be
the top of the thread, and the other two be childs to that (they are both
replies to gmcafee's mail).
According to the description of 'gnus-summary-reparent-thread':
-----
T ^ runs the command gnus-summary-reparent-thread
which is an interactive compiled Lisp function in `gnus-sum'.
(gnus-summary-reparent-thread)
Make the current article child of the marked (or previous) article.
Note that the re-threading will only work if `gnus-thread-ignore-subject'
is non-nil or the Subject: of both articles are the same.
-----
That's EXACTLY what i tried. Mark it with 'T #' (I also tried just '#'), and
then move to the article that should be the child, and issued 'T ^'. Doesn't
work as 'advertised'...

If you introduce reference loops into your threads, Gnus will pick out
one of the articles at random and make that into the root.
