How important is ucs-tables.el in the contrib directory of gnus?

When I build the cvs version of Oort, I get this error (first line
wrapped to fit in < 80 columns):

While compiling toplevel forms in file
   /opt/cvs/gnus/build-gnus/contrib/ucs-tables.el:
!! Invalid read syntax ((". in wrong context"))
Invalid read syntax: ". in wrong context"
  xemacs exiting
  .

Is this benign, or should I do something to work around it when I build
new gnus versions from cvs?

Thanks in advance.

CMIIW but ucs-tables.el is for use with Emacs not with XEmacs.

It should NOT be used with XEmacs. It will only work for Emacs.
