Hi!

It may sound strange but since I've switched from Linux to FreeBSD my
Gnus simply closes my Emacs when I type 'ç' for the first time on a
message.

After the first one, I can type it for a few minutes (random) and then
it kills my Emacs again.

The only change I've made on my configurations was to use UTF-8
instead of ISO-8859-1.

Is it a known bug?
Should it happen if my console is configured to ISO-8859-1 and my
Emacs (on X) uses UTF-8?

It only happens with Gnus, I can use 'ç' anywhere else on Emacs.

It happens when replying and writing new messages...

I think I've provided you everything I know up to now... If you want
some debug output, please send me what I have to do and I'll give you
the information.

I'll be trying ISO-8859-1 to see if the problem stops.

See you,

OK....

I've done several tests and couldn't find anything.

The problem still happens with iso-8859-1 as my encoding. And I can
use Emacs without any problem, it only happens in Gnus...

Thanks for any hint,

And this happens only in Message buffers? You can type "ç"
everywhere else? If so, that's rather bizarre, and would mean that
the input methods for the Message buffer are different from the ones
in other buffers. And I don't even know how to do that. :-)

On the other hand, a guy told me something similar yesterday...

It happens anywhere inside Gnus. Message buffers, Message lists, Group
lists, etc.

I can use the 'ç' anywhere else on Emacs or on my system.

And it's only 'ç'... Other letters and diacriticals work perfectly.

What does `C-h k ç' say in a Gnus buffer?

First try: closed Gnus and killed my Emacs. No core, no nothing.

Second try:

----------------------------------------------------------------------
ç runs the command undefined
which is an interactive compiled Lisp function in `subr'.
(undefined)
not documented
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I suspect there's something related to encodings... Look at the quoted
part above. It was perfect when I asked to reply the message and it
looks like boxes now.

This behaviour is also consistent: the first try kills my Emacs (I
have to restore the autosaved message to answer correctly sometimes,
but other times it works straight from the original message, as it did
now). Then, it works for a while (random time) and then it kills Emacs
again.

Do you do anything i particular with your input methods?

Nothing. They are (I think) standar Gnus methods... I've only added
some keybingind to function keys (F2, F3, ...) and nothing else.

Then I have no idea. Has anybody else heard of anything like this?

:-(

I think I'll have to restart my .emacs and .gnus from scratch and see
what happens... :-(
