I've got a group with the following parameters (as of M-x
gnus-summary-edit-parameters RET from the respective summary buffer):

| ((gcc-self . t)
| (gnus-summary-line-format . "%5N %7uT: %s\n"))
`-----
Why isn't the value of gnus-summary-line-format different for that
summary buffer? I must be misunderstanding something, here.

It should have been (var value) not (var . value). Sorry about that.
Hadn't been reading the docs closely enough.
