Hi,

This problem is in gnus-5.8.6. It was not present in 5.8.2 and
earlier.

The problem occurs when I try to mail forward anything. I am using
XEmacs 21.2.b32 *without* MULE, have message-default-charset set to
koi8-r. It all worked just fine till recently, in 5.8.4 there were
similar problems when I tried to forward messages containing
`Content-Type: text/plain; charset=koi8-r' as one of the headers (I
could forward after deleting that header), but now I'm stuck - I
cannot forward any messages at all. (Sending works fine even with
koi8-r). Please, I'll appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

Could you (setq debug-on-error t) and send the backtrace?

I've located the bug. Please check out the latest CVS version and test

After updating gnus from CVS to 5.8.7, I can't not only forward, but
even simply post messages. With the same error (no such coding system:
koi8-r). When forwarding, I got exactly same backtrace. I had to
revert to 5.8.6 to post this message.

After cvs update this morning, I again can mail using 5.8.7 (thanks!)
but I still can not mail forward. Any ideas?

Now, it is hopefully fixed. Please verify it.

Shenghuo,

Thanks - it is MUCH better now! IOW, both mail forward and send mail
work. It also works fine if I have Russian text inside messages.

There is one problem though - if I have Russian text in the header (I
tried Subject:, not sure about others), the message is not sent, with
the following error:

Signaling: (error "No such coding system" iso-8859-5)
  mm-encode-coding-region(57 71 iso-8859-5)
  rfc2047-encode(57 71 cyrillic-iso8859-5)
  rfc2047-encode-region(20 72)
  mail-encode-encoded-word-buffer()
  message-send-mail(nil)
  message-send-via-mail(nil)
  message-send(nil)
  message-send-and-exit(nil)
  call-interactively(message-send-and-exit)

It could be due to problems in my setup, but I'd appreciate pointers
as to what to look at. Thanks.

It is a bug. Now, it is fixed. I also did another fix so that the
messages will be encoded as koi8-r instead of iso-8859-5 if
message-default-charset is koi8-r. Please verify both.

Thanks. Yes, I can send and forward messages with a Russian subject,
but what I get is subject line like the following one:

=?koi8-r?b?9MXT1CDQzyDS1dPTy8ku?=

instead of the actual text. Again, this looks as if it could be
misconfiguration on my part, in which case I'd appreciate a pointer on
how to fix this. Thanks.

(As I wrote earlier, my XEmacs does *not* have MULE, which may be
relevant.)

By default, the subject and other fields are encoded according to
RFC2047. If you want to disable this feature, you need set
gnus-group-posting-charset-alist.
