In the last two days, I've had a large number of messages which were
marked read, marked unread by gnus. It happened in two different folders
on the same server. Here's an imap-log from just before it happened in
one instance:

"Gnus v5.13"

This led to the subsequent offlineimap output:

Syncing INBOX.main.in: IMAP -> Maildir
Deleting flags S to 559 messages on IMAP[INBOX.main.in]
Deleting flags R to 34 messages on IMAP[INBOX.main.in]
Deleting flags F to 2 messages on IMAP[INBOX.main.in]
Deleting flags S to 559 messages on LocalStatus[.main.in]
Deleting flags R to 34 messages on LocalStatus[.main.in]
Deleting flags F to 2 messages on LocalStatus[.main.in]

I did not delete any of those flags. Gnus just did it.

The first time opening the folder after this, many messages are marked
with M.

Also lost were all of the replied-to marks (A). :( And I guess the
Forwarded ones too, judging from the offlineimap output.

What was the name of the folder that lost its marks?

This is a head-scratcher. Apparently it's setting article flags to
\Seen on group entry -- before it's requesting the article headers. I
know this was possible in Gnus before (if the active info was wrong),
but I thought that I had fixed that like a few months ago.

Are you using a current bzr Emacs?

Right now, I'm on:

"24.0.50.1" Most recent commit is Dec 20. I can update if you think
changes since have an effect.

Okay, I've updated -- will report back if it happens again :).

Thanks!
