I thought at one point I saw something about an article washing thing
that would undo that horrible OE/Outlook way of quoting articles
(ie. put the reply at the start, and yank in all of the article
responded to after the reply).

I tried finding it today in the Gnus docs and by grepping through the
elisp code, but I couldn't find anything.

I'm wondering if I did misunderstand gnus-article-treat-dumbquotes or
there if really is something like that?

Look for articles from Paul Stevenson and Jonas Steverud from March
24,25 on this list. I've forwarded them to you in private.

Don't read everything you believe.

"Dumb quotes" are quote signs from the Windows-1252 charset which are
control characters in ISO 8859-1.

Regarding the comb quoting (this is called "Kammquoting" in Denglisch),
I would be interested in a solution, too.

the function should be 'added' to a hook right? but which one?

or does the function work with just insertion in .gnus? (don't think so)
