.newsrc.eld corrupt with nnml mailbox

OK.  My machine just crashed when gnus was saving its .newsrc.eld file.

For starters... shouldn't be make this transactional?  I mean why not back up
the file, try to save it and then remove the backup.

If a backup file exists when gnus starts up we could restore it.

My question is... is there a way to have gnus reread and recreate the correct
.newsrc.eld file from my ~/Mail directory ???

Yes, that would be nice.

Some of the contents of .newsrc.eld may be duplicated there, depending
on your Gnus version.  Specifically, nnml may have your article marks
stored there.  Group parameters, foreign servers, topic structure,
etc., are gone unless you have a backup, I think.
