Good ideas...making configuration easier would definately be a good
thing.  I think the auto-reconnection to dropped connections is an
important thing as well.

* Proper article counts (for backends which make this possible).

* Async/background signature checking, so as to not prevent articles
from being displayed.

* More async/background behavior would be nice, but I'm not sure how
  far we can push this inside Emacs.

Those are off the top of my head, but I'm sure I'll think of more...
