Quite a lot, I think, in the case of IMAP. AIUI, it uses IMAP's move
command while splitting - if it didn't, it would have to download each
article and upload it again.
I'm not sure how hard it would be to special-case the code for a
same-server split. I don't expect it would be hard, but I'm not
volunteering ;-)
