I want this too. In fact, I suggested this in a discussion way back
when; this has come up on the Gnus list a couple of times.
(I didn't suggest these key bindings -- `C-u d' now means mark 4
articles as read, I think -- but that's just a minor matter which
barely justifies mentioning.)
