After I enter my pop3 password, if I do a view-lossage, my password is
there. Not that I'm paranoid or anything, but is there any way to
prevent this?

Yes, there is. Recently, I posted a patch on gnu.emacs.sources.
Unfortunately, it's only possible to clear the password from C source.
A modified version of the patch will be part of subsequent Emacs releases
(and an upcoming security patch for Emacs 20.5 which will address other
issues as well).
