FYI, ding@gnus.org is a mailing list for discussing the Gnus Emacs
newsreader. See http://www.gnus.org/ for more information on Gnus.

If you are using Gnus, you can use the banner group parameter to prevent
blocks of text (including advertisements) in the email message body from
being displayed. This mechanism only hides the text in question, it
doesn't actually delete it out of the message body. See the Gnus info
document for more information on the banner group parameter.

In case you are/someone is interested, here are two banner regexps I
whipped up to hide the advertisements at the bottom of Hotmail emails (1):

Aggressive: "^_____________+\n.*get.*free.*\n\\(.*\n\\)+"
Safer: "^_____________+\n.*get.*free.*\n\\(.*\n\\)?\\(.*\n\\)?\\(.*\n\\)?"

Use the "safer" banner if you are worried about stripping off more than
the banner, use the "aggressive" banner if you want to make sure that
the advertisement is totally gone.

- Matt

(1) These banners do not work on email written in HTML. Suggestions are
welcome.
