I have (setq user-full-name "Kai Großjohann") in ~/.gnus and I have
recently converted that file into UTF-8, adding the appropriate "-*-
coding: utf-8; -*-" tag in the first line.

As you can see, this results in Gnus claiming my name to be
iso-8859-1 encoded in the From header, but actually the ß is two
bytes. I guess it's the UTF-8 encoding of ß...

Ideas?

I changed it back to iso-8859-1 now -- now the From header should be
okay again. Lessee...

Thanks! This is easier on our eyes.

Well, actually it would have been better had I been able to find the
cause rather than curing the symptoms.

How does it look in the message buffer? Is it UTF-8 or Latin-1? I
see you are using CVS Emacs, does it happen in Emacs 21 as well?
