I reverted it in CVS.
Katsumi, was the apop bug you reported the reason for the change? If
so, I can't reproduce the following:
(md5 "dingnusdingnusdingnusdingnusding")
=> "e071fa3c89ab48d83f55162fa456881d"
(md5 (string-as-multibyte "dingnusdingnusdingnusdingnusding"))
=> "6486539a971f92213ffd3538f9ad8fea"
My emacs seem to return e071f... for both cases, regardless of whether
the buffer is multibyte or not.
