Dear Y'all - 

I've been getting my IMAP mail from Brandeis flawlessly until this
latest holiday break, now there's none.  Undoubtably I've changed
something salient (I'm always tinkering) and now my IMAP client to
them is broken.

The error message I get refers to a "mail source error" when trying to
reach an IMAP server.

Can you quote the exact error?  If you set debug-on-quit and press C-g
at the mail source error prompt what backtrace do you get?  Also
setting imap-log and posting the contents of *imap-log* helps.

Dear Simon - 

I checked with the mail admin and they added kerberos authentication
to their mail system over the weekend.  IMAP over SSL is still
supported and I'd just as soon continue to get my mail that way.

Try M-x load-library RET mail-source.el RET and M-: (setq
debug-on-signal t) RET before starting Gnus to get a better backtrace.
Cut all backtrace you get and press 'c' in the backtrace window until
it bugs out completely.

Are you using latest Oort in CVS?  (Your headers says something else.)

The *imap-log* stuff looks OK.
