Hi,

the following problem occurs to me with Emacs 21.1 (and before with
the .105/106 pre-releases) and the rather old gnus-CURRENT-20010813
(I don't feel to secure upgrading my Gnus right now since there seems
to be a lot of stuff going on).

Well, here is the thing:

I recently got my login removed at an IMAP server I used to access.
It still is in my server definition though.

When Gnus starts up, I can press C-g when it wants to connect to
that server, so Gnus skips it, and later, I see it as "denied" in
the Server Buffer. Fine.

However, when getting news the next time, it still tries to access
that server. If I deny that server manually in the Server Buffer, it
does *not* try to connect to that server again.

Always, if I am fast enough to notice that it wants to connect to that
server, I can interrupt it, even for a while after I get the "login
failed" message in the echo area. If I wait for too long, Gnus just
hangs, and C-g doesn't have any effect.

I am running Emacs in gdb, I can see where it hangs. xbacktrace gives
me:

I'll happily admit that I had another problem with C-g not quitting
a hanging Emacs just until yesterday, but that had something to do
with my X libs (Xaw3d I guess). I have since re-built Emacs and my
original C-g problem has gone away.

Now, could just remove that server from my list, but that doesn't
help in cases where a server is inaccessible temporarily.

Any advice?

TIA,
  Colin
