Which leads me to the problem of not being able to do C-h b or
something on a button. Is that just me, or is it a bug? Or a feature?

Er... Are character property keymaps supposed to show up when doing
`C-h b'? I don't know.
Anyway, I get this when I `C-h b' anywhere in the article buffer:
Invalid character: 1600000, -1073745256, 0x5850a63c
Emacs 20.3. Anyone have any ideas what this might mean?

Neither do I. Extent-local keymaps don't show up in XEmacs, and I'm
not sure whether to consider it a bug.
