Actually, I'm more of a renewbie, as I've been away from Emacs/gnus for
about a year.
Anyway. I want to use gnus to read a couple of groups and look at some
naked people, and to avoid seeing the spam, and avoid seeing the creation
of the latest alt.foo.bar.bar.bar groups. Whenever I point gnus at my
ISP's
NNTP host, it starts reading megabytes of stuff and runs for hours without
really doing anything.
I know the groupfile isn't *that* big, so I must be doing something wrong.
I've read the Info file, but all the things I've tried have no effect.
Can anyone help? Thanks.

Do you have NoCeM handling switched on?
