When you do a `defface' (or any other face modifications), Emacs goes
blank until the next screen refresh. I can understand why (if the
font size changes, it has to do all kinds of things), but it looks
really ugly while Gnus is loading. First the gnu is displayed, then
Emacs goes blank, then the gnu comes back, and then we get the group
buffer.
Does anybody have any ideas for how to avoid this?
