The following message is a courtesy copy of an article
that has been posted to gnu.emacs.gnus as well.
I was sternly told that it's way past time to release this baby, so
here it is:

Gnus 5.8.8 is probably the last of the Gnus 5.eighties, and is
basically (if I understand things correctly) a back-port of Gnus 5.9,
which is what Emacs 21¹ will have.
The next release will be the alpha Oort Gnus v0.01.
