When fetching by Message-ID, most news servers does not tell Gnus what
the article number of the message is. So Gnus has no way to mark
these articles.

If I enter a group and hit '^' to fetch the parent of an article, if it was
not already in the summary buffer, then I cannot mark it. Specifically,
sometimes I'll enter a group, decide I want to mark w/ a '?' a specific
thread, so get parents with either ^ or 'A T', but either way, ? gives me
the message:
Can't mark negative article numbers

This is with oort from cvs this morning.

Maybe Gnus can look in the Xref header?

Gnus does that (see `nntp-find-group-and-number'), but for some
reason, some news servers do not include the Xref header when you
fetch the article by Message-ID.
