I have `(setq gnus-use-cache 't)' in my ~/.gnus.el. However, since
upgrading to gnus 5.6.20, it appears that articles are not entered
into the cache when I tick them `M t'.

I just tried this, and it seems to work for me. `!' gets them the
cache mark, and they appear in the cache directory for the group, as
far as I can tell.

Yep, everything's OK for me now too. I can only assume it was an
aberration brought on by fatigue and drugs :-).
