I just finished reading a long message (100+ lines) that had quite a
few footnotes throughout.

So I got to thinking: WIBNI I could just move my rat over the "[1]"
in the article body and have a balloon-help type dialog display the
contents of the footnote.

M-x footnote-balloons :)

http://list-archive.xemacs.org/xemacs-beta/199809/msg00179.html

The code:
  http://groups.google.de/groups?hl=de&selm=deathsquad.m3sni94okh.fsf%40socha.net

Seems to work under XEmacs only, so a port to GNU Emacs would be nice.

HTH,
  Colin

And even nicer would be to have a keyboard shortcut (something similar
to `b'?); I like to stay away from the rodent as much as possible.

Dang! And I thought I was having an original idea. Oh well.

Thanks, works great!

If it could be ported to both Emacsen (and paperwork done, etc), then
Gnus could bind the command to some key to make navigation
convenient.
