I've tried different situations for the From: header, and some of them
look suspicious to me:

1/ From is in message-required-mail-headers.
   When I edit a message, I see a line with "Sender: verna@metheny.enst.fr"
This is not my email address, but the machine on which I'm working.

        a/ I send the message as-is.
There, I get a proper From: line and a Sender: identical to From:

        b/ I manually add a From: line (say foo@bar.baz).
There, I get _two_ From: lines. The one I set, and the normal one.
There's also a Sender line like in the preceding case.

c/ I manually add a From: line, but I also remove the Sender: line.
There, the situation is as in b/.

2/ From is _not_ present in message-required-mail-headers.
When I edit a message, neither From: nor Sender: is there at startup.

        a/ I send the message as-is.
There, I get a good From: line, and no Sender:.

        b/ I insert manually a From: line (say, foo@bar.baz)
There, I receive the From: line, and a Sender: with my usual
           address this time.

2-a and 2-b looks ok to me.
1-a looks redundant,
1-b and 1-c look bogus.

Comments ? Am I wrong ? In particular, I'd like to know, if I just
want another From: address temporarily for just one message, I should in the
1-a case right ?

I'd also like to try this on a newsgroup, but I don't want to spam.

I'm unable to reproduce this.

What happens for me is that

1) if the address in the From header is different from
`system-name', then Message adds a Sender header,

2) if not, not.

Do you have any hooks or something that inserts extra headers? Or
gnus-posting-styles or something?

That's it. When I have a posting-style group parameter which specifies
a From: line, I get not only the normal line but the one specified by the
posting style.

Could you post the posting style you're using?

(posting-style ("From" "Foo Bar <foo@bar.baz>"))

Then, C-u a on the group. YOu'll get two From: lines.

Yup. Fix in Pterodactyl Gnus v0.84.
