        Hi there.

I've just upgraded (I hadn't done so for a long time, I also can't follow
closely the list these days, and I apologize for this), and the nosey smileys
are gone. I've got awful square B/W smileys now.

Why has this happened ?

Note: I can still get the old smileys in the Gnus XEmacs package archive, but
I want to know why they have disapeared from the main stream.

Yeah, I know. They're terrible aren't they?

drv> Why has this happened ?

Because Lars decided to get rid of the old working 'smiley.el' and
replace it with the "less-than-optimal" 'smiley-ems.el'. I've asked
Lars a couple of times to put things back the way they were, but so
far my pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

Lars, please please put the old 'smiley.el' back, the one that's there
now is absolutely horrible for XEmacs users.

Just take the 'smiley.el' from the XEmacs packages and drop it into
your Oort directory.

Wasn't there some copyright holder issue with some of the smiley icons
at some point in time? Does FSF own the XEmacs smileys?

no, we have a problem to find original author of those icons.

Yes, use them too even with Emacs, because the default icons are really
crazy.

Hey, if you've mlock'ed more than your available memory, there's nothing
the VM layer can do. Except maybe a nice printk("Kiss your *ss goodbye");
