| The first line retrieved by the RETR command is the first line of a
| message.  How do you know whether the message comes from
| /var/spool/mail/jrl, or from ~jrl/Maildir/42, or from Informix, or
| from the Oracle of Delphi?  You don't know that.  It is only a single
| message, no more, no less.

If the first line of what RETR spits out is an SMTP envelope, the mail is
stored remotely in mbox format.  If the first line of what RETR spits out
is an MMDF delimiter, the mail is stored remotely in MMDF format.  If the
first line of what RETR spits out is a Babyl delimiter, the mail is stored
remotely in Babyl format.

If you know of other common storage formats, please let me know what they
are and exactly what they look like so I can include them in pop3's
separator munging exclusion.
